~ Radiolaria ~
This video draws on visual references from ocean dwelling creatures and microscopic organisms, along with Ernst Haeckel’s work on radiolaria. Radiolaria are minuscule, elaborate mineral skeletons. They can act as an indication of ancient climates and extinct life forms – providing an insight into the histories of our planet. These intricate skeletons are used in geological dating, including for oil exploration and determination of past climates, having an unusually long geological range.
Within an environment as vast as the ocean, I’m interested in focusing on something as small as a microorganism, as a way to start looking at the importance and complexity of the ecosystems we are intertwined with.
